The city of Krk was the URBAN CENTER of the island even 3000 years ago. It may be a small city in terms of its population, but it is certainly large in terms of its richness. Splendissima civitas Curictarum – the most splendid city of the people of Krk – is the inscription on an ancient tombstone from the 4th century. Just as it was described long ago, it has remainded so splendid right up today. Krk has managed to preserve its heritage and presents it bravely today. In the season you will find SMALL SHIPS docked along the waterfront that take you on day- trips around the island. The destinations are: the island of Prvić as a unique botanical and zoological reservation, Goli otok, a former communist gulag for many years, the island of Rab, with its tourist attractions ... 8th, 9th, and 10th August, in honour of the holiday of ST. LAWRENCE, there used to be a traditional fair in Krk where people from the whole island, used to come to sell and buy goods. The centuries long habit (1524.)has turned into the festival Lovrenćevo celebrated over a few days. The city becomes a big stage where folklore groups from the island perform, as well as the obligatory present city brass band founded way back in 1852. There are also numerous stands, music on the waterfront and the obligatory great firework display at the end of the festival.
